Mountain Training Association Mentor Programme - 2019
New opportunities to become a mentor or to be mentored
Last year (2018) we launched a trial mentoring programme with 28 participants. The aim of the programme was to provide mentoring support for members who are working towards a qualification assessment. We delivered a training day in mentoring skills to 14 mentors and matched each of them with a mentee. In the six months since the start of the programme two mentees have passed their assessments and others have their assessments coming up soon. There will be a full report on Mentoring 2018 in the autumn, when we have analysed the results of the participant feedback.
Our aim has always been to expand this to the wider membership and provide that additional support for members to benefit from. This year we’re going to learn from what we've done so far and expand the programme to other areas of the UK. So if becoming a mentor or being mentored is something you are interested in, we’re running two training days for mentors, with each day being concluded with a Meet Your Mentor event.

Applications will open soon and we’ll recruit regionally. This is a voluntary scheme, so one of our priorities is that participants are matched within close travelling distance.

"Having a mentor is working well for me. I haven’t needed to call upon him as much as I thought as just a small amount of contact has massively boosted my confidence. Knowing I have someone who I can ask daft questions is hugely valuable.” Ellen Piercy, 2018 mentee.
