MTA Terms and Conditions

The Mountain Training Association is the support and development branch of Mountain Training. It was created is 2005 and is owned by Mountain Training UK. MTA therefore follows and applies the same Terms and Conditions as Mountain Training.

Click below to read these Terms and Conditions. In addition to these, MTA has added the following T&C's:

Member code of conduct

By joining the Mountain Training Association (MTA), members are advocates for Mountain Training and the Association and are expected to uphold the values and professionalism that these represent:
  • Members will conduct themselves in a manner that is in line with the vision and ethos of Mountain Training
  • Members will maintain professional currency and demonstrate good practice, post qualification, by continuing their personal development as part of the Mountain Training Association’s CPD policy.
  • Members will not bring the association into disrepute.
The personal and professional behaviour of Members should conform to the standards that reasonably could be expected of professional leaders. This behaviour includes:
  • Professionalism in teaching and all operations
  • Respect for clients, employees, and members of the public;
  • Acting in a manner that reflects a positive approach to equal opportunities and challenges discrimination;
  • To act in a manner which has regard for the interests and policies of Mountain Training and MTA, including posts on social media.
MTA reserves the right to terminate the membership of any Member deemed to have behaved in a manner contrary to the Code outlined above.

Membership communications

All members will always receive monthly/regional e-newsletters as they are considered to be about core association business and a part of MTA membership services that members pay for and sign up to when they join MTA. These updates are designed to provide information about upcoming CPD workshops, regional events, gear deals and alerts from Mountain Training and its leadership schemes that members may find useful.

There may be occasions when MTA would like to send members something marketing related, but this is very rare. If members did not update their preferences before 25th May 2018, in accordance with the 2018 GDPR guidelines, they will have been automatically unsubscribed from these particular marketing emails, but they will still receive the ‘business as usual’ e-newsletters as these are considered a benefit of MTA membership. If members would like to receive marketing emails from MTA they can opt in by logging into their Mountain Training account and updating your email preferences in your Account Settings.
If you have any issues, please contact the Mountain Training office on 01690 720272 or and a members of staff can talk you through the process.

Special gear discounts

The Mountain Training Association has teamed up with some big names in the industry and is proud to offer its members a broad selection of discounts with outdoor manufacturers, suppliers and course providers. These offers have been specially negotiated for personal use by Mountain Training Association members ONLY. To verify that you are a member of MTA and therefore entitled to receive special gear discounts, some of our partner retailers/suppliers have been given the limited ability to perform a basic search and check of your membership status.

Full member commitment to CPD

Continued personal development (CPD) is the means by which members maintain, improve and broaden their knowledge and skills and develop the personal qualities required when using their awards. The Mountain Training Association encourages good practice and supports members in being professional in their approach and believes that the CPD process is vital for all members, whether working full time in the outdoors or using the awards in a voluntary capacity.

Full members commit to gaining two CPD points, which roughly equates to two days, in a five year period.

The CPD policy can be downloaded from the MTA Members Area.

The Mountain Training Association logo policy is designed to give members the required information regarding the use of the MTA logo; who can use it, how it can be used, in what format and what happens in the event of misuse. The logo is available for use by full members to promote themselves and/or their businesses and certain branded merchandise can be used by MTA trainee members.

Payment methods

We encourage members to pay for their membership and any shop items online via their Mountain Training account. Paying by card over the phone is also an option if an online payment is not feasible. We do not accept payment by cheque.

Refund policy

  • Cancellation of MTA membership must take place within 14 days from the day after the membership fee was paid.
  • Workshops that are hosted by another company on behalf of MTA for its members should adhere to the cancellation and refund policy of the hosting company.
  • MTA workshops that are organised and hosted by MTA and take payment through the system have a separate cancellation policy that is visible within each specific workshop in CMS.
